wish + past (Present Wishes)
Şimdiki bir durumdan memnun olmadığımızda, gerçeğin tersini dilemek için wish + past simple kullanırız.
- I wish I had more time. (Aslında vaktim yok.)
- She wishes she lived near the sea.
- be fiilinde özellikle yazıda ve resmî dilde were tercih edilir: I wish I were taller. (Günlük konuşmada was da çok yaygındır ve yanlış sayılmaz.)
- if only daha güçlü/duygusal bir vurgu katar: If only I knew the answer!
