Unreal Past After Certain Expressions
Bazı ifadelerden sonra past tense gerçek geçmişi değil, hayali/gerçek dışı anlamı gösterir. Buna 'unreal past' denir.

Be fiilinde, özellikle resmî dilde, tüm öznelerle were tercih edilir: as if he were rich (gündelik dilde was da kullanılır). Geçmiş pişmanlıkta past perfect: wish I had studied.
