Verbless Clauses
Verbless clause, fiili (genelde be) tamamen silinmiş, sadece özne+tümleç ya da tümleçten oluşan sıkışık bir öbektir. Bilgiyi çok ekonomik biçimde katar.
- Though tired, she kept working. (= Though she was tired)
- Whenever possible, book in advance. (= Whenever it is possible)
- A man of great patience, he never complained. (betimleyici, apozisyon)
- If necessary / where relevant / once inside gibi kalıplarda çok yaygın.
Çoğunlukla bir bağlaç (though, if, when, while, once) korunur ama özne ve be düşer. Anlam ana cümlenin öznesinden ya da bağlamdan tamamlanır; bu yüzden özneler uyumlu olmalıdır.
