Absolute Constructions
Absolute construction, kendi öznesi olan ama çekimli fiili olmayan bir öbektir; ana cümleye arka plan, sebep ya da eşlik eden durum katar.
Yapı: isim/zamir + participle (ya da sıfat/öbek)
- The weather being fine, we set off early. (sebep/durum)
- His work finished, he left the office. (zamansal, tamamlanma)
- She stood at the door, arms folded. (eşlik eden durum — betimleme)
- All things considered, it was a success. (kalıplaşmış)
Ana cümleden farklı bir özneye sahip olması, onu sıradan participle cümleciğinden ayırır. Çoğunlukla resmî ve edebî üsluptadır; öznenin başında with de gelebilir: With the deadline looming, they worked all night.
