Advanced Substitution & Ellipsis
İleri düzeyde tekrardan kaçınmanın iki yolu vardır: substitution (yerine koyma) ve ellipsis (düşürme).
- Substitution: bir öğeyi so, not, one/ones, do so ile değiştirme.
- "Will it rain?" — "I hope not / I'm afraid so."
- He promised to help and he did so at once.
- Ellipsis: bağlamdan anlaşılan öğeyi silme.
- She could have called but chose not to [call].
- Some agreed, others [did] not.
Yardımcı fiilden sonra ana fiil öbeği düşer: I haven't finished, but I will [finish]. Resmî yazıda do so daha ağırbaşlı, konuşmada do it/that daha yaygındır.
